RAPA drilling and development going safely and smoothly in Tallevast area
The first week of work following the holidays, January 3 – 6, saw much progress for the Remedial Action Plan Addendum (RAPA) construction. Drilling activities were completed safely and smoothly in two locations outside the Tallevast Community.
This week, extraction well drilling began in the Rights of Way area on the west side of 15th St. next to the Sarasota/Bradenton Airport. The work near the airport is being done in compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements and the airport’s specifications. Another two wells were also being drilled in Rights of Way areas on 78th St. near 17th St. Ct. East. These are expected to be completed by the end of this week or the beginning of next.
Follow-up development and yield testing will be conducted on each of the wells. Next week, an extraction well is scheduled to be drilled on Tuesday, January 17th in the Rights of Way near the south lane of Tallevast Road, just west of the railroad tracks. This will require the south lane of Tallevast Road to be temporarily closed from approximately 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Flagmen will be on duty to direct traffic. Lockheed Martin is utilizing the Florida Department of Transportation Index procedures to safely operate the temporary lane closure. Additional extraction wells will also be drilled on 17th St. Ct. East, adjacent to the Lockheed Martin site and also on the back of the U.S. Post Office property on Tallevast Road.
To observe the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. national holiday, there will be no construction work done on Monday, January 16, 2012. (The interim remedial action plan (IRAP) water treatment system on the Lockheed Martin site will operate as it continually does.)
