Go Green Initiative
Sparked by the company’s commitment to its communities, customers and employees, Lockheed Martin launched its Go Green initiative in January 2008, in an effort to eliminate adverse environmental impacts from the company’s operations. Environmental initiatives are not new to Lockheed Martin. For many years, businesses across the Corporation have implemented practices and pursued projects that protect resources, conserve energy and reduce emissions. Our Goals
Lockheed Martin’s current environmental strategy is organized around four high-level goals:
- Reduce carbon impact through increased energy efficiency and use of renewable fuels.
- Reduce waste to landfills through recycling, alternative materials and disposal methods.
- Reduce industrial wastewater discharge through water use reduction and recycling facilities.
- Eliminate substances of concern by developing a corporate restricted chemicals list and implementing processes to remove them from use.
Lockheed Martin ultimately would like to achieve carbon neutrality — reducing its net carbon “footprint” to zero. Although that’s a long-term goal, the Corporation’s near-term activities are already attracting attention. National Geographic Magazine recognized Lockheed Martin as a “climate champion” for “significant achievements to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprint.”
Taking Even More Steps
As a charter partner of the Climate Leaders program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Corporation has pledged to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent per dollar revenue between 2001 and 2010. To achieve this goal, Lockheed Martin has invested more than $40 million over the past six years in capital improvements specifically targeted at increasing energy efficiency and lowering emissions.
