Real Life 101
Lockheed Martin’s Manatee/Sarasota Operations partnered with the Manatee Chamber of Commerce to participate in Real Life 101, the Chamber’s award-winning educational program for seventh and ninth graders. During the one-hour activity, volunteers worked with teachers to create a simulation of a work place – a shirt manufacturing company called S.O.S. - Ship Our Shirts.
Ship Our Shirts
Given a deadline, students participating in Real Life 101 were asked to correctly complete purchase orders as each played the part of managers, employees or customers of a shirt manufacturing company. Students quickly had to move into problem-solving mode to navigate the obstacles presented by fellow students playing the roles of unmotivated, late and absent coworkers. The Real Life 101 experience emphasizes the importance of:
- teamwork
- work ethic
- responsibility
In Manatee County, students pick career paths in eighth grade, so the Real Life program allows them to look at a variety of aspects that could shape their decisions.
