Facilities & Buildings
The former Loral American Beryllium Company (ABC) site is situated on slightly more than five acres at 1600 Tallevast Road in Tallevast, Fla. ABC was an ultra-precision machine parts manufacturing plant, where metals were milled, lathed and drilled into various components. The plant was shut down in September 1996 after Lockheed Martin acquired Loral and assumed ownership of the facility.
The Property
The property contained five primary buildings covering approximately 66,300 square feet. Buildings 4 and 5 were dismantled because they were situated on top of the area with the highest contaminant concentrations on the property. Building 4 housed a wood-working shop, inspection room, laboratory and process room. Building 5 housed plating and anodizing rooms, a wastewater treatment system and chemicals storage. Both buildings were built in the 1970s, and each measures about 10,000-square-feet.
